The Proven Roof Protection Solution

At TECTUM, we choose to work exclusively with Rust-Oleum Noxyde®, because when it comes to protecting your roof, nothing else comes close.

What Is Noxyde?

Noxyde is the only anti-corrosive waterproofing membrane designed to seal, protect, and extend the life of your roof. Unlike standard paints, it flexes with the roof and forms a continuous barrier against water, salt, rust, and harsh weather.

Noxyde contains specialised anticorrosive pigments that render surface rust inert, preventing both its formation and spread. As a single-component, water-based elastomeric membrane, it delivers waterproofing and corrosion protection in one system.

The coating builds a thick, flexible film with up to 200% elasticity, allowing it to bridge hairline cracks while resisting UV, salt spray, and humidity. Allowing it to withstand the summers  hottest environments and winters coldest environments.

Noxyde is applied in two coats, to create a seamless barrier that adheres to any metal, iron, steel, concrete, clay, bitumen, existing painted surfaces, asbestos, butynol and tiles.

What Is Rust-Oleum?

Rust-Oleum was founded on the principle of creating innovative products. And, after 100 years, they are just getting started!

In 1921, sea captain Robert Fergusson noticed that fish oil prevented rust from forming on his ship’s metal deck. Working with a chemist, Fergusson developed one of the world’s first rust-preventive paints and Rust-Oleum was born.

Noxyde is engineered by Rust-Oleum which is one of the leading brands within RPM International.

RPM publicly reports substantial and ongoing investment into R&D including US $86.6 million in FY2023 and US $92.2 million in FY2024 (company-wide), demonstrating continuous formulation and testing.

Many newcomer coatings and smaller New Zealand brands simply can’t match Rust-Oleum’s scale or expertise in the protective coatings industry. Don’t be misled by rubber underlay and topcoat systems claiming to compete with Noxyde, they’re not the same. Rust-Oleum is a world-class global brand with unmatched capability and proven performance in protective coatings.

Independent Certifications
& Lab Testing

Noxyde’s performance is documented against ISO 12944 corrosivity categories and key ASTM methods used in the protective-coatings industry. Independent Standards, Certifications & Lab Testing

When we say Noxyde is “tested and certified,” that’s not marketing spin, it’s backed by globally recognised standards organisations that ensure coatings really perform under harsh conditions.

What Is ASTM?

ASTM International (formerly the American Society for Testing and Materials) is one of the world’s largest developers of technical standards. Their scientific test methods are used worldwide to verify whether coatings can resist corrosion, UV, abrasion, chemicals, and more.

For example, ASTM B117 salt-spray testing replicates decades of coastal weathering in a controlled lab environment, while ASTM D522 confirms flexibility and crack resistance under stress. By meeting and exceeding these globally recognised standards, Noxyde demonstrates a level of durability and reliability that budget paints and newcomer products simply cannot match.

What Is ISO?

ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is a global network of national standards bodies.

They publish independent, internationally recognised standards for quality, safety, and performance.

For coatings, the most relevant is ISO 12944, which defines corrosion protection levels from C1 (very low) to C5 (very high) and CX (extreme offshore).

Noxyde is certified to perform at ISO 12944 C5, meaning it withstands the harshest industrial and marine environments.

Why It Matters?

Trust & Transparency → Independent testing proves performance, not just the manufacturer’s claims.

Peace of Mind → Noxyde’s certifications show it has been pushed to extremes in the lab and the field.

Real Results → With 25+ years of proven success in New Zealand’s coastal climate, the lab results match the real world track record.

Beware of Cheaper, Unproven Coatings → They may cost less upfront but lack independent testing, global recognition, and the 25+ years of proven performance that Noxyde delivers in New Zealand.

Why We Use Nothing Else.

Plenty of companies use coatings. Few can back them up.

Noxyde is the only anti-corrosive waterproofing membrane with 50+ years of proven global performance, and it’s been tested right here in New Zealand’s toughest coastal environments. That’s why Tectum uses it exclusively.
